Window Display Contest

Window displays created by participating local businesses will be voted on by the public and surrounding business owners to win the heart of the community. Stroll the Village, visit your favorite shows, discover new ones and vote for your winning Winterfest window. The winning window will be celebrated with a big gold star that will be displayed for the remainder of the Holiday Season.

The Contest kicks off on Saturday, November 30th and goes through Friday, December 20th.

Each person who votes will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize, a $100 gift card to his or her choice of shops.

Write a letter to Father Christmas

Children will be able to leave letters for Father Christmas in the classic Victorian mailbox located on the Village Green stage with the forest of trees. Father Christmas's "Fairhaven Elves" will spirit the letters away for his perusal – but we hear they will sometimes sneak photos of the envelopes before delivering them, and they will share these on the Historic Fairhaven Facebook page – so be sure to keep watch!

Fairhaven Winterfest- Tales of the Season

This year, the historic Fairhaven Winterfest celebrates Whatcom county writers in our first annual “Tales of the Season” event.

Think of your favorite holiday memory and boil it down to between 300 and 500 words. We will select up to twenty stories and poems (divided by age groups) to be honored at the Winterfest celebration which includes a video of a storyteller reading your work, as well as a Village Books publication in 2021. Your story will also be posted on line and in dozens of shops in Bellingham throughout December.

Five tips to keep in mind before you hit SUBMIT:

• These stories are often stronger if they come from your own point of view.

• Get your reader into the story with emotion, tension, conflict, and goals.

• Try to load your story with gripping images your reader can easily visualize.

• If you use dialogue, remember, each line must have a purpose.

• Put it aside, then re-read your story and delete extraneous words.

Submissions from all ages are due by November 14, 2019. $5 entry fee.

What’s your story, Whatcom?

Falala Competition・December 22, 2018・Historic Fairhaven in Bellingham, WA

A joyful holiday music event benefiting the Historic Fairhaven Association and Skookum Kids.

FaLaLa is fun! Join us for one of Fairhaven's most magical and festive nights. This heart-warming event brings people together to enjoy the music of the season.

FaLaLa helps! The event raises funds for the Historic Fairhaven Association (HFA) which promotes Fairhaven Village while honoring and preserving its historic character. In 2019 HFA is partnered with Skookum Kids whose mission is to repair the foster care system by eliminating the pain points that make life unnecessarily difficult for foster parents and social workers.

Immerse yourself in the holiday spirit as dozens of caroling teams sing their hearts out on the street corners of Fairhaven Village. The top teams then compete in a sing-off on the FaLaLa Main Stage at the Fairhaven Village Green.

There are lots of ways to enjoy Fairhaven FaLaLa! You can savor the music, volunteer to produce the event, or get in on the action and form a caroling team.
